In 2020, while Amanda saw so many medical care staffs had mask scars due to long-term mask wearing amid pandemic, she thought that there should be a product that can sooth the redness and help the scar recovering. Then she discussed with Dr. angus and selected the three herb ingredients, designing the formula toward this problem.

Why Licorice+CICA+Bisabolol?

Licorice, Centella Asiatica Extract (CICA), and Bisabolol are the herbs utilized as medicines to accelerate wound healing and anti-inflammation in ancient Europe and Asia. Nowadays, scientists also have positive conclusions in terms of wound healing and anti-inflammation toward to these three herbs. Meanwhile, Licorice and Bisabolol are proved that they can inhibit Tyrosinase through different mechanisms to decrease the melanin production that causes hyperpigmentation, or dark spots. On the other hand, Bisabolol has another benefit that can enhance the permeation of the elixir, alleviating the result.

A good product is not only the effective ingredients, but the others.

The Elixir only has 10 ingredients (not includes water). We use Hydroxyacetophenone, natural preservative with only 0.5% to keep the product safe from bacteria.

-Propanediol, Butylene Glycol, and 1,2-Hexanediol which are the family of alcohol. But they don’t irritate skin as ethanol, aka alcohol, does. Instead, these three ingredients can keep the water on the skin and enhance the preservative system to prevent from bacteria. Also, Propanediol, 1,3-propanediol, is from corn resource that is different from Propylene Glycol, 1,2-propanediol, that is from oil refinery resource and may cause irritation to skin.

-PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil is an emulsifier for Bisabolol to assist it dissolve in the water solution. It is very common emulsifier in beauty industry. EWG categorized it as a moderate hazard because of the impurities of Ethylene Oxide and 1,4-Dioxane that may cause cancer with high dose. But we don't see it hazardous after we checked the amount of the impurities and researched a lot of results from the scientific papers, like International Journal of Toxicology. The impurities quantity as less than 0.001% that wouldn't cause a concern. While the pros of using this emulsifier weighs heavier than the cons, we take the opinions of EWG web as a reference but won't be bothered after we evaluate it as a safe ingredient.

-Sodium Hyaluronate here is humectant to catch the moist on the skin and thickener to make the elixir a bit gel-like.

Water, Glycerin, Propanediol, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Butylene Glycol, Centella Asiatica Extract, Hydroxyacetophenone, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Bisabolol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Sodium Hyaluronate
